Consoleness for the first time since Atari 2600! PDF Print E-mail

I haven't owned a game console since I had an Atari 2600 when I was a kid.  Yeah, that was a looooooooooooooong time ago.  When I was 10 or so, I got a Commodore 64 computer, and since then, I've only played computer games.  Then, when MMOs started coming out (September of '97 with UO), I've really only been playing those.  For 7 years in Everquest 1, my wife played with me, and that was awesome.  Sadly, though, due to our playstyle (I was a Necro, she was a Rogue, and we fear- and aggro- kited allll the time...), she developed RMI in her hand and can't really play those style of games anymore.  That led us to look at consoles.  This was back in late November/early December.  Can't really remember. :P

We first just wanted to go cheap, so we looked at the older consoles (PS2, GameCube, XBOX 180, etc) to see which one had a large number of cooperative multiplayer games available for it.  The clear winner there was the PS2, and so we got one.  Looking at cooperative games, we first tried out the Champions of Norrath series.  Both games are really good for co-op multiplayer!  We also picked up Silent Hill 2 -- not multiplayer at all, but it's a great horror game, and I played while she watched and it was fun for both of us.  We've got a lot of PS2 games now, heh.  Bully is awesome.

So we decided we liked console gaming.  A lot.  When the next-gen releases (Wii and PS3) were happening, we decided we'd look at getting a next-gen console.  The XBOX 360 ended up winning -- mainly for title availability and also the simple fact that you can go buy one easily. :P  There aren't a lot of co-op titles for the 360 yet -- but we've got Marvel Ultimate Alliance and will probably also get Lego Star Wars (have the demo, it's fun!).  Marvel is lots of fun -- a lot like the CoN series on the PS2, actually.  Same type of hack-n-slash game.   I also have Saint's Row -- again a non-coop title, but wow it is fun!  I play while she watches and with the number of cut scenes involved and such, she says it's really fun to watch, almost like a movie.  I also have Dead Rising, and it's very cool, but our TV is not HD, and so it's not as fun to play.  A known issue is that the mission text and such is very hard to read on non-HD TVs.  And it is --  I can barely read it.
